Floating Silt Curtains are impervious sediment that controls the barriers constructed of a flexible geo textile having an upper hem for enclosing flotation material and a lower hem for enclosing ballast material. The skirt depth of the curtain is the
material perpendicularly below the upper hem. The measurement lengthwise of the curtain is the horizontal distance between ends. Additional construction features are reliant on curtain design. Floating silt curtains are designed to control the settling of
solids suspended in water by endowing a controlled area of containment. This condition of suspension is generally created by disrupting natural conditions through construction or dredging in the marine environment. The containment of settling solids is
desirable to lessen the impact area of these solids.
More about the floating curtains
The reactor basin is separated into two cells by a floating curtain wall or a hard wall. The first cell is aerated incessantly, whereas the second
cell is aerated intermittently in a controlled cycle that includes sedimentation and supernatant decant. Mixed liquor is used from the second cell to a manhole just upstream from the head works of the plant. There it is mixed with the inward sewage. The
solution flows through the head works and into the first cell in a continuous stream. The two cell configurations eliminate short circuiting through the reactor basin as well as modulate the peaks of the diurnal loading pattern. Furthermore, by designing for
nitrification to occur in the second cell, the system divides the oxygen demand of nitrifies from that of the heterotrophy creating more favorable conditions for nitrifies. The mixed liquor recycle endorse the contact of the biomass with the soluble CBOD5 in
the sewage, thus reducing the tendency for filamentous bulking.
Conclusion
The nitrification procedure is controlled through the continuous wasting of the mixed liquor from the reactor basin to the sludge basin. Such control can be
achieved by diverting a portion of the recycle flow. The flow rate of the diverted mixed liquor determines the solids retention time at which the procedure is operated. The rate can be controlled easily by adjusting a hand valve inserted in the piping for the diverted flow.
